 AsNoticias

After three years of publishing “as notícias” (the only Portuguese newspaper distributed in all UK) achieved its first objectives – to cover England, Wales, Scotland, Channel Islands and Ireland. By doing this, our publication closed an important gap in the market enabling more than 700,000 Portuguese living in the UK to receive information in their own language. The Managing Director, João de Noronha, runs the company and Daniel Santos runs the publication with support from several professional journalists. Some of whom are UK correspondents for several different media in Portugal. Versatile and straightforward this fortnightly newspaper reports on local, Portuguese and world news. Addresses many important local and UK issues in order to provide a general understanding and help Portuguese migrant workers to adapt to a different day-to-day way of life. Jobs, property, general service provision and other classified advertisements feature in the newspaper together with news coverage including cultural, holiday and sport activities and topical interviews. The newspaper is fully edited and printed in the UK and distributed within the UK free of charge, through out 259 different locations (519 distribution points) with a circulation of 20,000. The publication aims to reach a bigger circulation by the end 2010, increasing its geographic circulation according to Portuguese immigration market fluctuation. Portuguese migrants depend heavily upon the Portuguese language to survive and communicate and therefore our newspaper plays a vital role helping with their integration as a whole and getting them aware of the potential, importance and /or essence of a certain product in UK market. Mainly concentrated in two regions in England (50% in London and 30% in East Anglia) the Portuguese population relies on specific service agencies, companies and businesses that can link with their culture, language and diet, their traditions and way of life. This is a characteristic of first generation immigration when migrants live by creating a similar environment as close as possible to the one in their country of origin.
